Hello! Had a good week?
Right, anyone familiar with this? Game of Thrones, or as known to readers of the series as 'A Song of Ice and Fire' is one of my favourite series of all time. With a cast so complex and huge it's easy to have favourites, yet harder to choose! .Today I'd like to share my top five characters from the series, so hear it goes...
5. Theon Greyjoy.
Not many people like this guy. I get it, I do. He does some bad, cowardly things but I love Theon's character development and his struggle over who he should be loyal to. Should he be loyal to the Starks who raised him but armed themselves with the knowledge that they can kill Theon at any time. Or should his loyalty lie with his father in the Iron Islands who he hasn't seen for around a decade. I think I feel the most sympathy for him, probably because of his bad decisions and the affect they have on him. I also love his story arc and the way it progresses in 'A Dance with Dragons'.
4. Olenna Tyrell
The matriarch of the Tyrells. I personally love her character and her clever scheming throughout the storyline. I find her a very amusing character to read about. She's like Downton Abbey's Lady Violet but an expert at political intrigue.
3. Sansa Stark
Poor Sansa. Nobody seems to like this girl. I personally find her more realistic and believable than her sister, and by book five, I find her storyline more interesting. While Arya isn't really involved in the dangerous Game of Thrones, her sister is, after being betrothed to Joffery. As she grows up, she becomes more aware and by 'A Dance with Dragons', it is amazing how clever she's become and how mature she is.
2. Varys, or 'The Spider'
Varys, master of disguise and deception. The mystery of Varys is yet to be resolved, so even by book five the readers don't really know who he is or what his motives are. This really intrigues me, as you never quite know what he's up to. But you just know he's the man who will protect the realm.
1. Jon Snow
Probably everyone's favourite. That or it's Tyrion. Or Dany...ok, ok, or Arya. Jon's one of the really popular characters, because you sympathise him immediately when you learn that he's Ned Stark's bastard, and him being on the Wall - a vastly different environment from everywhere else. Apart from Bran, and perhaps Dany, he's one of the nearest to the magical aspect in the series, which makes the wall very interesting. There's so many conflicts throughout Jon's chapters, like he doesn't know who to be loyal to, and this makes things difficult that he's inherited his father's strong moral code. I also love the way his story progresses, the mystery surrounding his mother and his birth and the prophecies. He's also one of the most like able characters in the series.
Notable characters
Here's some I also love but they didn't make it to the top five.
Ygritte, Arya Stark, Robb Stark, Jaquen H'ghar and Jaime and Tyrion Lannister.
Thanks for reading. Who's your favourite A Song of Ice and Fire character?
